Specialized Networks: Enhancing Care for Patients with Serious Illness
Patients suffering from serious or long-term illnesses have complex health care needs that can be overwhelming and difficult to manage. Through our affiliate company United Resource Networks, UnitedHealthcare offers programs that provide these patients with specialized services and access to highly renowned facilities.

Networks and services

  • United Resource Networks helps patients obtain care through its Centers of Excellence network, which includes facilities that meet high standards for criteria including program volumes and clinical outcomes, providing patient and family-oriented services, and practicing evidence-based medicine.
  • Transplant Resource Services (TRS) tracks quality data on transplant care centers and helps patients obtain care from more than 180 leading transplant programs at medical centers throughout the United States.  TRS also offers pre-negotiated rates for transplantation, saving patients up to 50% on costs.  In addition, TRS care consultants provide patients with personal assistance throughout the entire process.
  • Cancer Resource Services (CRS) offers UnitedHealthcare patients access to a network of premier cancer centers that meet Centers of Excellence standards of care.  In fact, 15 of the cancer care centers in the CRS network are members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), an alliance of leading cancer centers, physicians and researchers.

The service also connects patients to the most experienced physicians and hospitals for their specific forms of cancer.  In addition, CRS provides patients and families with reliable information about cancer centers and physicians, consultative services from CRS nurses, and in many cases, lower out-of-pocket costs.
