Learn about Disease Management
More than half of health care costs today can be attributed to approximately 20% of the population. Roughly 30% of employers' health care dollars are spent treating the chronic conditions of just 5% of employees. To help fight these rising costs, UnitedHealthcare offers a variety of disease management programs.

What is disease management?

Disease management programs are sophisticated, individualized wellness and support programs.Traditional programs include management for common ailments such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Today's programs also include weight loss support and treatment for depression and other mental health issues. Prevention programs and new early-detection technology are also being integrated into many companies' disease management programs.

Better health by design

By redesigning many of their disease management programs, companies have been ab le to provide employees with tailor-made programs that are more effective.

Efforts to improve employee health, such as in-house exercise opportunities and discounted gym memberships, also are on the rise.

Disease management programs not only save money, but also help chronically unwell people become healthier. Many employers have found that adding management programs to the existing plan helps to boost employee satisfaction and foster a more productive workforce.
